Yoga, for me, is both a practice of action and self-reflection. It’s the conscious choice to show up – for myself, my body, my mind – even when I’d rather not…
Yoga isn’t just about moving through poses; it’s about noticing what comes up in the stillness between them. It asks me to act with intention and pause long enough to reflect on how I’m showing up in my life.
Some days, yoga looks like a challenging physical practice. Other days, it’s sitting quietly, observing my thoughts without judgement.
Both require effort. Both require honesty.
Yoga has taught me that growth doesn’t happen without both movement and stillness – doing and being.
Yoga is a Philosophy, Not a Religion
It’s important to clarify that yoga is not a religion. At its core, yoga is a philosophy – a guide for living with awareness. It includes:
- Ethical principles (Yamas): Guidelines for how we relate to others
- Personal observances (Niyamas): Practices that nurture our inner world
- Healthy disciplines: Tools that support the journey inward
These teachings aren’t about dogma or belief systems; they’re practical tools for cultivating a mindful, compassionate way of being.
Coming Home to Myself
For me, yoga is about creating space.
✅ Space in my body
✅ Space in my mind
✅ Space in my life for awareness and change
It’s an ongoing journey that calls for consistent action and a willingness to look inward.
