I was recently asked the question, “How do you see yourself as your own healer?“
This prompt really struck a chord in me, and I felt called to share what it means to call yourself your own healer, from my perspective.
Seeing yourself as your own healer means being able to recognize your inherent ability to identify the root causes of your pain, emotional distress, or physical discomfort, and actively taking steps to address them. Essentially, you take ownership of your own healing journey rather than solely relying on external sources.
Becoming your own healer means learning how to take yourself by the hand. It means knowing what is best for YOU. It means being your own champion, your own rescuer, your own beloved.
Some of the key aspects of being your own healer include self awareness, inner wisdom, taking responsibility, developing healthy coping mechanisms, setting boundaries, and positive self talk.
Self-Awareness
Paying close attention to your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations to understand what is causing discomfort or imbalance.
Inner Wisdom
Trusting your intuition and inner guidance to identify what healing practices are most beneficial for you.
Taking Responsibility
Actively engaging in practices that promote healing, such as meditation, exercise, healthy eating, journaling, or seeking knowledge about your condition. Sometimes, taking responsibility looks like consulting with an Ayurvedic or holistic health practitioner for advice.
Developing Healthy Coping Mechanisms
Find healthy ways to manage stress and difficult emotions, like deep breathing, mindfulness, exercises, or creative outlets.
Setting Boundaries
Recognize what situations or behaviors tend to negatively impact your well-being.
Positive Self Talk
Cultivating a belief in your ability to heal and recover, even during challenging times.
Now, just because you are your own healer does not mean that you cannot seek out external support for complex traumas, chronic health conditions/ diagnoses, or significant life transitions.
Being your own healer also means knowing when to ask for help.
