Seasonal Wellness Tips: Fall ࿔*

As the air turns crisp and the days become shorter, our bodies and minds naturally begin to shift with the season. In Ayurveda, Fall is considered a Vata time of year- dry, light, cool, and mobile. If you’ve ever noticed your skin feeling drier, your sleep becoming lighter, or your mind buzzing a little more in autumn, that’s the influence of Vata dosha.

The beauty of seasonal living is that we can adjust our routines to bring ourselves back into balance. Here are a few simple and grounding ways to support your well-being this fall:

1. Eat Warm, Moist Foods

Think soups, stews, roasted root veggies, and warm grains. Adding healthy oils like ghee, olive oil, or sesame oil can help counteract dryness. Spices such as cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and cumin support digestion while adding warmth.

Tip: Swap out cold smoothies or raw salads for cooked dishes to keep your digestion strong.

2. Stay Warm and Cozy

Autumn is a time to layer up. Scarves, socks, and warm teas all help buffer against the crisp air. Protecting your head, neck, and chest from wind can make a huge difference in how stable you feel.

Tip: Try sipping warm water throughout the day instead of iced drinks.

3. Moisturize from the Inside Out

Vata season often brings dryness to hair, skin, and even digestion. Beyond hydrating with warm water and teas, you can try Abhyanga (self massage with warm oil). Sesame oil is classic for fall, but almond or jojoba oil work well, too.

Tip: Warm the oil slightly and massage before showering.

4. Create Steady Routines

Aim to wake, eat, and wind down around the same times every day. This helps calm the nervous system and support sleep.

Tip: Try a short evening wind down ritual – dim the lights, make a cup of herbal tea, journal, or stretch gently before bed.

5. Prioritize Rest & Reflection

Just as the trees shed their leaves, fall invites us to let go of what no longer serves us. It’s a perfect season for slowing down, reflecting, and preparing for the inward turn of winter.

Tip: Take a walk in nature, journal about what you’re ready to release, or simply allow yourself more time to rest.

Living in rhythm with the seasons isn’t about overhauling your life… It’s about small, intentional shifts. By eating warm and grounding foods, keeping your body moisturized, and honoring your need for steadiness, you’ll feel more resilient as we transition into the colder months.
