Affordable Things to do in Manchester, England

Whether you’re visiting from out of town, or you’re a native Mancunian, you’re probably curious about how to explore Greater Manchester on a budget.

Read on for my list of go-to activities in Manchester, that won’t burn up your wallet.

Take a Stroll Down Deansgate

Deansgate Road is a notable historic avenue with phenomenal views of the skyline, as well as dozens of dining options.

There is often live music, vendors, and street performers- great for people watching!

Bridgewater Canal Towpath

Walking is a great way to get some fresh air and move your body, plus it’s free!

This leisurely greenway is perfect for walkers, runners, cyclists, and even boaters/ kayakers!

The towpath takes you along Manchester’s waterways, and it totals 65km (39 miles) in length.

City Parks

If it’s free, it’s for me!

Manchester has tons of amazing views to appreciate.

Some of my favorite parks around the city:

  • The Meadow- North Manchester
  • Alexandra Park- South Manchester
  • Piccadilly Gardens- Center city (Pictured above)
  • All Saints Park- Center city

Nightlife

A visit to Manchester would not be complete without exploring some of the city’s lively nightlife.

Sip on some cocktails at The Fitzgerald, a speak-easy style bar with a vintage ambience.

If you’re looking for some friendly competition, head over to Twenty-Twenty Two, an underground ping pong bar.

Another great option for some fun and games is Junkyard Mini Golf near Deansgate.

Manchester is known for its performance arts. There is oftentimes concerts, comedy shows, plays, and other attractions after hours. Check out Visit Manchester for a full list of upcoming events in the city.

Take the Railway

Located in the middle of the country, public transportation makes it easy, and affordable, to get from Manchester to many other parts of the United Kingdom.

Trainline allows you to search trains and coaches in all of Europe and the UK.

Some of my favorite day trip destinations:

  • London
  • Liverpool
  • Sheffield
  • Whales
  • Scotland

There are also 15 National Parks in the UK. Four of them are within a 2-hour train ride from Manchester!

In short, Manchester is a major cultural hub with notable architecture, musical exports, social impact, and transport connections.

A fantastic place to visit and an even better place to call home.

That is my list of affordable things to do in and around the city. Did I miss anything?

(Don’t forget to visit Old Trafford Stadium, world-famous home of Manchester United. Go Red Devils!)
